In October 2024, 50 years after The Oregon Trail’s first wide release, news broke that HarperCollins has partnered with Apple to develop a live-action movie based on the game, complete with musical numbers in the vein of Barbie.

This, like so much nostalgia literally aimed directly at me just exhausts me. Like the generation that raised me has held on to power into my middle age, and let every major issue just get worse and worse and then try to sell back the trappings of my childhood (of which I am now very aware of serving a role in fostering white supremacist ideas) as if that will at all comfort me.
