Oh no. I’m in so many communities and am worried about where they might have to go next.

I suppose I’ve already lived through the transition from Skype to Discord, I just don’t know of what the alternatives are rn.

There really aren’t any. It was guilded until Roblox bought it.

This was inevitable but I don’t even feel anything about it. We’ve hit the find-out phase and maybe this’ll finally convince mfers to start taking shit out of discord when shit inevitably hits the fan

The only issue, much like all other social apps, is that moving from something you use just for yourself is much easier than moving from something you use to interact with others, as they need to move as well

I looked at Revolt when Guilded started “requiring” Roblox logins, it was…fine, but still very much in development. I’ve heard of Matrix but haven’t looked at it yet, the vibe I got was it requires a little more setup I think?

Matrix and Spacebar are both “Good luck hosting on your own” which does give users plenty of freedom, but we’ve also witnessed the Mint Headaches in running this server, so that’s not something everyone will be willing to do

Yeah, also like. You will still have the same social internet problems of “what happens if the server owner flames out dramatically”. If they’re the person that’s managing the servers it’s much harder to do a handoff to someone who is willing to run it instead.

Oh no, absolutely, but I’m not looking to fix that, I actually wish for those servers to disappear and the information to be lost, just so people will finally realize. These are just alternatives to having an actual message app.

At this point I’m gonna host a teamspeak

The main thing discord has is the screen sharing, which our group uses near daily. If that weren’t the case I’d just get us all on signal so we could talk about how much we want to [REDACTED REDACTED] whenever we want

This is darkly funny for me because I just got my friends to get the group chat off Facebook Messenger in response to Zuck having a normal one… onto Discord.

oh shit i forgot about revolt lol

i have it installed (and am willing to add ppl on there) but the only problem with it is that if you have the discord ‘detect the game you’re playing’ thing on if you launch revolt, discord shows you as playing some game called re-volt LOL
