RPG - Lillie: Power of the Heart

“We apologize, it seems you aren’t what we’re looking for at this time.”

You look at the email again and groan. How many times has it been now? You think you must be doing something wrong in these job interviews, but you aren’t sure what. You followed all the instructions you found online, but there must still be some other element… something human, that you’re missing.

Moping won’t get us anywhere! You think to yourself. You decided to live as a human and you won’t let this stop you. You stand up suddenly with renewed determination, but your foot catches on the leg of your chair and you find yourself tumbling backwards.

After your brain catches up with your body on the floor, you can you hear… giggling. You are in your room alone, as far as you know. You stand yourself back up to check if maybe you had left a video playing on your computer.

Nope. Computer is definitely muted.

By now, the giggling has stopped. You’re room isn’t very large so it doesn’t take you long to verify that you are, indeed, alone. Strange…

Well, there isn’t much else you can do at the moment. You decide to soothe your aching, rejected heart with some tasty food at a nearby restaurant. Making friends has been a bit difficult, but the people there are always kind to you.

“Lillie! The usual?” The old man behind the counter gives you a friendly smile and you nod in response. The old man owned the restaurant and it was run by him and his family.

It didn’t take long for your food to finish and the owner’s daughter, Alice, brings it out to you. Alice is a girl around your own age with blue haired tied into a high ponytail. You think she might be your friend, but it’s difficult for you to tell.

“How’s the job search going?” Alice asks you. She sets down the food and you are about to respond to her when you’re interrupted by a large explosion. It shatters the large window facing the street and you and Alice are both knocked to the ground.

A large, dark purple creature stalks through the broken window. It looks like a cross between a cat and a reptile with sharp, yellow teeth and claws. It’s tail flicks back and forth as its eyes slowly scan the scene before stopping on Alice. It’s body lowers to the ground and you understood instantly what it planned to do.

“STOP!”

For a moment everything pauses. The reptile-cat is frozen in the air, mid-flight towards the other girl on the ground. The silence of the motionless scene is broken by the same giggling you heard earlier.

“Do you want to save them?” The voice is light and melodic, almost playful.

You don’t respond immediately, still processing what’s going on.

“Hm~ if you do, all you need to do,” From nowhere something is thrown at you. You catch what appears to be some kind of wand, “is say, Power Heart.” The wand is pink, with a heart at the end with a red jewel embedded in it. Along it, several smaller hearts are engraved with smaller gems inside them. It feels warm in your hand, almost like it’s alive.

With this, will you be able to save them? You aren’t sure, but it’s the only option you have.

Lillie stares at the wand, dumbfounded, for another half-second.

Her time to question is cut short, the sound returning to the world and the scene before her starting into motion once again. “Fuck uh uh P-Power Heart?!?”, Lillie stammers, holding the wand out in front of her; as if trying to cast a spell at the beast before her.

The warmth of the wand is mirrored, spreading out through her core, as if her body was resonating with it. She’s suddenly blinded by a flash of pink light, disoriented, feeling like she’s floating in midair. Almost as suddenly as it began, it ends, Lillie’s feet back on the floor. She blinks. Her clothes have been replaced with an elegant dress, with lace and frills, in pink (it matches her hair?), silver, and an opalescent white; her shoes into matching wedges complete with little bows of ribbon. The wand in her hand is now an elegant bow, with a heart motif and inset gems; with an iridescent string, thin, almost like a strand of spider silk. Of course, the bow matches the rest of Lillie’s outfit. It all feels… almost familiar, somehow.

Lillie barely has time to register all of this, leaping forward, impossibly light on her feet. She takes the bow in both hands and slams the end of its lower arm into the monster’s head, to knock it away before it can reach the target of its pounce.

When you attack the monster. It flinches back and hisses. You’ve definitely caught it off guard. Suddenly, you hear that familiar laughing again.

“You hit it-” The voice can barely speak between laughs. “You hit it with the sacred wand of power like it was a baseball bat.” Quite the unhelpful commentary.

The creature regains its senses and turns towards you. Luckily, it seems to have forgotten about Alice for the moment. Unluckily, it seems pretty pissed at you.

The voice has, by now, gone silent, offering no advice on what to do next. Somehow, though, you feel an instinct. It wasn’t very clear, but the wand pulls itself and your hand to face the attacking reptile-cat.

You open your mouth to call the power you feel bubbling inside, but before you can get the words out, a new voice cuts them off.

“What are you supposed to be?” Floating in the air outside the window was a woman. Her dark purple hair floated behind her as if she was underwater. She sneered at you with a look of annoyance.

“I guess it doesn’t matter.” She fires a beam of dark energy at you that crackled like electricity. You barely manage to dodge out of the way. So she was clearly not a friend. It seems your problems have multiplied by two.

Options [Pick one to formulate your response with]:

  1. Attack the reptile-cat
  2. Attack the woman
  3. Talk to the woman
  4. Flee with Alice

[Flee with Alice]

Despite all the talk of saving people and “sacred wands of power”, Lillie is not a hero. Sure, she’d probably able to ~face the fearsome beast and its wicked master!!!~ better than most ordinary humans, but the only thing that’s gonna accomplish is getting more people hurt. She needs to make sure Alice is out of harm’s way.

Lillie grabs a nearby chair, whipping it at the reptile-cat, aiming for the face, simultaneously dashing forward to use the opportunity to attempt to grab Alice, hoping to make a bolt into the kitchen and out the restaurant’s back door.
