i will be sure to keep in mind that making multiple long winded posts to call people stupid are fine, but just calling someone stupid is not

hmm. i suppose iā€™ll keep this up as well and use you as an example. i did say to DM me sooooo

i donā€™t really have many rules on this website. in fact, iā€™d say I have one:

Be Normal

your post was not normal. arguing is normal. justifying an argument is normal. being short and insulting with zero justification is not. yes, there was some needless spice in the back and forth, iā€™m not exactly known to mince words when iā€™m irritated either. but every other comment - including your previous ones! - had more substance than a single sentence. so i deleted it. i donā€™t know why that would upset you tbh, i would want my past embarrassments to get removed from the internet myself too, which is exactly what that post was.

i like you bud! i like everyone here and i donā€™t like seeing yā€™all fight. but do not take advantage of my fondness with needless sarcasm about my decision. just because i donā€™t want to moderate yā€™all doesnā€™t mean i wonā€™t. i have been around long enough to know when to cut the toxicity out of a space before it spreads further.

if you can suck it up and keep it pushing i will be more than happy to pretend like this never happened. no oneā€™s said a slur here, it does not need to be some fracture in the website. but otherwise iā€™ll just suspend you for a while and go from there. donā€™t fucking test me my friend.

late night news: i am finally on my long-term home over there, so i can actually start pointing people places if theyā€™re interested in this.

tl;dr: if you would like to be a part of what is basically a pre-alpha/alpha/troubleshooting phase before launch, DM me and iā€™ll shoot you an invite to the node iā€™m on. (beyond me having the global influence iā€™ve mentioned, the node iā€™m on is prioritizing users of color and iā€™m an admin. should hopefully make for a good space?)

less tl;dr

i canā€™t imagine there are more than 60-80 users across the whole network as of now, but things are still pretty lively1 if you donā€™t mind following basically everyone right now and whittling down later on in the life of the project. in terms of UI/UX: plenty that we want to improve eventually, but. despite being microblogging oriented, Akkoma (which is what my long-term node uses) is decently Cohost-like without much modification/with certain settings enabled. meanwhile for GotoSocial (the other major federated software that nodes are using for this project) weā€™ve got a Cohost-like frontend, Pillbug, thatā€™s in active development and makes for a pretty good simulacra:

1 if rough around the edges and still pretty strongly bent toward microbloggingā€“one of the things weā€™re working on and troubleshooting

And now itā€™s time for me to admit that thereā€™s one part of my using cohost that Iā€™ll actually missā€“my private vent account that just two mutuals from main followed. No lie, it was vital to my coming to terms with some struggles from last year. Just a spot for me to get stuff off my chest to folks who might better understand things than my family, without the shame of feeling like Iā€™m pushing someone too hard by directly reaching out to them privately. Got some reassuring comments on this page plenty a time, too.

Iā€™m writing my first blogpost past the shuttering of cohost and likeā€¦I do miss knowing someoneā€™s gonna read it haha. Even if it is just via a scattering of likes.

That has been the more difficult part of adjusting to dreamwidth for me. Thankfully I have found a small cadre of commenters so thereā€™s never Zero feedback but like. See my post upthread about missing a digital commons. Likes are nice

this tookā€¦ significantly longer than expected but, after a lot of wrangling: hereā€™s a big update on Website League progress and how to joinā€“while we already have a bunch of users, this is de facto the alpha launch weā€™ve been intending to do for awhile.

also of particular interest to @dismallyOriented will probably the best practices for moderation document that summarizes contemporary moderation research, which i just finished last night and which has been put on the Website League wiki as guidance for prospective mods and admins:

(offer of invite to the node i am an admin on still stands, btwā€“a few of you are already over there)

Oh, tyvm for the @, thatā€™s very thoughtful of you. I think I might like to join that node but not right this minute. Iā€™ll poke you again next week probably
