Dwarf Fortress’ Adventure Mode awakened the tiny, pixelated Indiana Jones within me

I guess I’ll have to give it a shot, since I couldn’t pierce the density of base Dwarf Fortress.

yeah might be my time to dive in. i’ve heard the steam version helps ease peeps in thankfully

Yeah, that’s how I first played the base game, was through the Steam Edition. I still had to get some tutorials in me though from Youtube which ain’t ideal, but it was still a start.

Now my first fortress ending with an Elephant in my tunnels somehow, and I was worried it was going to rampage and destroy things didn’t come to pass (killed by a zombie attack), but it was still Very Funny to just have an Elephant chilling at the bar underground.

I jumped into the beta and boy, the character builder for Adventure Mode is more steps than I expected.

  • Background (Including former obligation, which god you worshiped and a “how strong of a believer were you” toggle)
  • Species
  • Nation you’re from
  • Two rows of stats with their own stat points.

I bowed out at the next step: Equipment, lmao.

I remember playing adventurer mode, like, a decade ago. I kept dying instantly to the first thing I met that was hostile, lmao.

Sometimes even things that weren’t hostile.

I’ve still to go back and try the new DF in general, but I’m sure it’ll be a great time whenever I do.
