I feel like I haven’t been able to find a hairstyle I REALLY like. For a change, I recently started growing my hair out for a mullet just to see if that would suit me and I think it looks fine as long as it doesn’t poof out too much (which is achieved by going to bed with my hair wet/damp).
I grew my hair out over the COVID lockdowns and then eventually went to a barber, pointed at my head, and said “help”.
They did a good job, and when I went back months later and said I wanted an undercut to keep cool in the summer they were good about figuring that out with me.
So… Go see a barber? They’ll probably know how to help you.
I only started growing my hair during the quarantined, having buzz cuts my entire life. So, honestly, the thing with me is letting it grown to a certain size, until it starts bothering you, then think about what makes you feel comfortable and uncomfortable.
Hair around my neck and ears tends to feel bad, so that’s around the point where I get a cut. Then I have it adjusted to the top half so it feels proportional. But to know what exactly you’d like, perhaps looking up people with similar cuts? I did some cursory googles searches on curly hair when I started getting my first cuts, and I knew I wanted something lighter on the sides and heavier on top, then took some of those photos on my phone when I went to the barber.
honestly for me it was trial and error LOL my thought process is always (at least at my age) that hair grows back so why Not experiment? try stuff u think might look cool imo
deep-diving on instagram and previous photos of my own haircuts tbh. in my experience it’s been a bit of a pain because you have to factor in hair type (thickness etc), head shape, etc and instagram search doesn’t make it easy to do this (eg can’t search multiple tags). it’s very useful to have a few saved reference images to pull out and tell your stylist/barber about what aspects you like even if you don’t find the Perfect hairstyle to replicate.
