How's your day going?

Low energy today in class, but day before a holiday is like that. Let early to get coffee and was very early to my train. Chill vibes in general

Suboptimal dayā€¦ :disappointed_relieved: I woke up with my third ear inflammation in four months. Had to call the GPā€™s answermachine just as I left for work because thatā€™s when their phone line opens, and they didnā€™t call me up until Iā€™d biked almost all the way to work and they actually managed to get me an appointment within the hour so I had to 180 right back. Apparently what Iā€™ve been having for the past months arenā€™t proper ear infections? Iā€™m just randomly getting external inflammations in the ear canal on both sides? The type people get if they go swimming a bunch, or wear earbuds, or poke into their ear. The doctor I saw was completely stumped why I might be getting this issue repeatedly but prescribed me drops and sent a referral for me to get an appointment with an ear specialist.

Then I get to workā€¦ And even though itā€™s not a particularly busy day, my coworker who usually picks up the slack when Iā€™m gone isnā€™t here today for some reason, and there was just a bunch of stuff piled up. And I noticed a massive issue on an item with a short deadline and forwarded it to my supervisor, but he either misheard me or I didnā€™t explain the issue properly so he contacted the client and told them the completely wrong thing and I had to correct him afterwards and he had to call backā€¦ It wasnā€™t my problem but I feel really bad about it. :pensive2:

Having a late lunch now and after I finish catching up on the pileup later in the afternoon the last couple hours of work shouldnā€™t be too busyā€¦ Iā€™m getting a mf hamburger on the way home tonight I need the meat monger to fix me.

Really one of those ā€œwhen it rains, it poursā€ kinda days huh

I hope the burger will help!

:mushroom:: Mmmā€¦borgerā€¦
Im having one of the worst kind of working during the holidays experience: absolutely shit all to do
Weā€™re a custodian for an art museum. We take care of the collections building, a largish building with storage and labs and offices about a 5 minute drive away from the museum
The art museum is open today, so we have to be in (its open every day but shh)
The collections building is dead empty because all of the personnel not needed for day to day stuff took today off/were given today off
No people? Nothing to clean. We got non-daily stuff done earlier in the week and it isnt time to do it again yet. The plus side is that im being paid $32/hr (normally $16 but we get holiday pay on top of normal) do sit on my hands all day
The downside is that Iā€™m stuck here sitting on my hands all day
Yayyyyy :upside_down_face:

on the one hand I have been happy to only have to cook collard greens today. on the other hand, my folks were cooking almost everything else and claimed an ungodly early time for the turkey to cook (like less than 2 hours when we all expected at least 4) and in trying to get them into the instant pot in time to get them stewing in there, I forgot to add the brown sugar! gah

(it still turned out pretty good, but it meant that the apple cider vinegar ā€“ which I put a little extra in anyway ā€“ was a bit more dominant of a flavor. hard to be too upset at that. still dang tasty)

Such is thanksgiving cooking stress. I was very fucking lucky that I watched Babishā€™s thanksgiving video earlier in the week. If youā€™ve never seen his ā€œBotched with Babishā€ series, he demonstrates all the possible ways there are to fuck something up, combined with the Reason why itā€™s a mistake and what the better method is - usually a specific dish like steak or mac & cheese. But for the Thanksgiving one, his very first gag was ā€œItā€™s 4 pm on Thanksgiving, I got a crowd of people in the living room who are gonna be hungry, itā€™s time to start the turkey-ā€ and then bouncing a fully frozen bird off of the benchtop. Timing timing timing, that video and his advice is the reason I had this bonkers fucking list the day of to help keep me from exploding.

partnerā€™s WFH today due to a work incident and itā€™s been real nice to be able to go for a walk together in the middle of the day when thereā€™s still sunlight to speak of. unfortunately I think weā€™re both getting sick though :crying_cat_face:

Had my best day in a while so far, with a huge step down in chaos at work (Albeit not without roadbumps, I had to use a flatbed with a stuck wheel several times, I felt like I was gonna pass out after the third time I had to rush a full lap of the store while grabbing and carrying various heavy objects like vacuums, toaster ovens, and 32 packs of water. At least I dodged all the mini fridges), and then a hangout session with an old friend who left the state a while ago and is back in town for thanksgiving with her family. It was a blast! And driving them back to the airport after was surprisingly simple, we listened to Let Live & Let Ghosts on the way, it was great

so, in pfsense, if you reserve a DHCP address pool range that includes the pfsense router/firewall itself, pfsense apparently can appropriate that address for a connecting device despite using it for itself. you would think it wouldnā€™t or couldnā€™t, but it is apparently possible. I know this because it did that with one of my TVs today, and I spent a couple very loud frustrating hours trying to figure out why internet connectivity worked if I unplugged the access point (so only wired devices were online) or the access point without pfsense (terrible for my setup but works if you enable DHCP on it). for a while I suspected the actual issue was the unmanaged switch (an odd thing, but maybe some solder point or connection came loose and data was not being sent through it properly). once I was actually in a place to look at the logs (my home layout doesnā€™t lend itself to a thorough set of wired connections; nearly everything is on wifi) I was able to get into the pfsense configuration

and of course I made some very silly choices while trying to fix all of this. I SSHā€™d into the pfsense server trying to change its default LAN ip address and accidentally set it up to get its address with DHCP, which meant for a little while the router was failing (fixed by setting up DHCP on the wireless access point ā€“ fine for most stuff, but not the wired file server!!)

this level of care and attention to detail is, of course, the nine-sixes uptime difference

As I feared, I had a pretty hard crash from my high earlier last week but with more vitamin D in my system and a cleared schedule and a lot of rest Iā€™m focusing on cleaning and have made good progress.

Iā€™m flying to visit my parents next week and I want to get the place clean before I leave so when I come back with energy that I just donā€™t immediately see it evaporate as I am confronted with my squalor.

Iā€™ve also made a lot of progress on my game regardless and Iā€™m hopeful that I can get another big content release out in January.

oh yeah I also got the covid and flu shots (absolutely vital since Iā€™ll be flying in like 3 weeks) so probably part of the reason I was so grumpy was arm soreness

woke up with a small coldā€¦ :mask: masked up and chugged paracetamol all day. thankfully id already prepared curry for lunch boxes for the first couple days this week and after having lunch and napping for the rest of my break i felt like i could lift boulders for a couple hours. was planning on lying back and doing some mindless ffx2 grinding in the evening but think ill just go straight to bedā€¦ hopefully ill sleep it off
