I feel a little bad posting a bunch of tcg art in a row in the microblog thread so at the very least I’ll do that here instead. I got into the tcg this fall shortly before the release of Surging Sparks. Mostly as a collector but I pay attention to what decks/pokemon are popular competitively. I never collected as a kid but I played the hell out of the 2-player starter set CD-ROM!
Currently planning a binder. First page will be dedicated to Ceruledge as it was a chase card I hit with my first pack. I also really like cards that are “pokemon and humans working or living together” so I may hunt singles of this theme for a double page spread in a 3x3 binder.
Not opening my box of Terastal Festival till Christmas so I’m living vicariously through youtubers. Seeing this set’s cards in hq video, damn the eeveelutions are growing on me, the Sylveon and Leafeon are wild!

Also, I learned that many people pronounce eeveelutions like evolutions with a long e. I always said eevee-lutions? The other way just sounds like how you’d say evolution in British English.
first image is the fav cards i pulled from the single pack i opened the other day. pretty cool luck to open one pack for the first time in years and pull a full art ex. sadly no real hits from the tin i opened last night, but i think it’s neat that i got the whole sprigatito line with a reverse holo and a holo (the meowscarada is the hollow, it doesn’t rlly show up on the pic). also this hoppip is cute.
woah those are so pretty!!! i’m considering saving my money to try and get a Prismatic Evolutions ETB when it comes out so i can hopefully get some good eeveelution cards. but idk if that’s a bad plan considering it’s highly anticipated and everyone’ll probably be all over it lol

Yeah people are going bonkers for Prismatic already! Pre-orders went fast and I expect some (that weren’t through a major retailer) may even be canceled to increase the price. A combination of high demand, fomo, market speculation and scalping has made things really difficult recently in terms of availability and price, particularly for a hype special set like Prismatic.
The store where I bought Terastal Festival is already selling it for $60 more than what I originally bought my single box for. Hopefully the price goes down once the English comes out. It’d be nice to grab one or two more but only at/near msrp.

I never played the SV DLC so I don’t have much connection to the legendries featured in it but the Duskull line IRs and Kingdra/Greninja promos from this set are heat!
No, from what I’ve seen of releases this year Shrouded Fable and Twilight Masquerade aren’t popular at all. I think Stellar Crown and Temporal Forces are also very underrated but those still sell.
The most desired and highest value cards in SF are such because of their playability not collector hype and collectors make up most of the community in addition to lots of oldheads who only interact with pkmn through the tcg and GO. Also the focus on the SV DLC. I think sets that focus on newer pkmn do worse *in English, these are the most recent mons and I’ve generally seen a lot of hate for the Loyal Trio/Pecharunt.
Done! didn’t get a whole lot of super rare cards but i’m pretty happy with the ones we did, i really love that illustration rare fracture! i’m a bit we didn’t get pheasandipiti or okidogi because i do like them, but the pecharunt promo card is gorgeous.
also we got fucking. 3 holographic Tapu Bulus.
SF is small but i dig it, all of the card art is super pretty. i also like the reverse holo pattern for this one more than previous S/V sets. i would post my favorite not-rares but honestly i love most of them.
also really happy with the amount of B/W stuff in this set, we grew up with it so it’s pretty cool, love to see Genesect. also happy i got a couple sylveons and eevees :-)
also a big fan of the color scheme for the ETB, super pretty.
Nice! I dig the Serperior, that’s my gen 5 starter. I hear they’re doing a B/W set next year, that’ll be hype. My fingers are crossed for a good Volcarona card. *I looked through the gen 5 dex to refresh myself and damn! Lots of good mons in gen 5, it’s stacked.
I don’t own any of the old yellow border cards but looking at them feels really nostalgic. I might pickup a crown zenith next year.
oh shit that’s awesome, and yeah. volcorona lovers i was quite happy to get a couple Iron Moths and a Slither wing. really good art on those too.
man speaking of yellow borders i can’t wait until i can access our old pokemon cards, we didn’t bring ‘em when we came to our partner’s place. all b/w and x/y. i also have a binder full of first edition cards a friend of our mom’s gifted us as a kid. will def post highlights whenever we have em with us again.
well, speaking of childhood pokemon cards, we’re with our partner at their parents’ for christmas and they’re giving me their childhood collection!
there’s some real beauties
I’ve never seen that lace pattern Gardevoir it’s really unique. I like when they play around with holos to make them feel actually special to pull so they don’t just end up with the rest of your bulk cards. The cracked ice pokeball/masterball reverse holos in Terastal/Prismatic are really neat too.
Did pretty well for a single box. Only the SAR and 2 pokeballs are guaranteed, the trainer SR and Masterball were bonus hits. Additionally, I only got 2 duplicate cards in 10 packs and it was Umbreon and Evee for which I got masterball/pokeball versions of.
Masterball umbreon is the most desirable card of the set. I’m still unsure what to do, Umbreon isn’t my favourite so I could just sell it for a quick ~$350US and buy a couple other boxes or singles of everything I want from the set. But, it’s also the first really desireable card I pulled so it could be a nice keepsake. I’m happy with the Ursaluna, it was my 6th most desired SAR out of 27 so not too bad!
*also im very hype about my luck with this box! I hope my quandary doesn’t betray that, it’s just a lot of money for a pokemon I’m meh on. If it were a Leafeon or Sylveon I’d just keep no hesitation.
Appearently this common Budew is the first Budew card to be printed since 2008. It’s also an absolute menace in-game, 0 energy 10 attack, your opponent cannot use items on their next turn
i love that illustration rare but that is really abysmal luck. i wanted to try and get pecharunt ex because its ability is fun and its IRs are cool but fuck me i guess. i think i’m through with SF, i like the cards but i have had much better luck with literally any other set. i have learned the gambler’s lesson the hard way!
on the bright side i got some good trainer cards and pokemon i was wanting (my partner and i have been playing some against each other) so building decks is gonna be easier. i did also get a Maushold ex from a paradox rift pack i opened.
anyways that’s all my tcg shopping for the foreseeable future since my christmas spending is done. if i want anything else from SF i’ll just buy singles. in the future if it’s still obtainable at a reasonable price i may try to go for paradox rift stuff and twilight masquerade stuff because those two sets i really like, and seem like they may have better odds. we’ll also just see what sets there are in the future :p
