Singleplayer / Journaling / Writing-based RPGs

Do folks have recommendations for single-player RPGs? Specifically I’m on the lookout for good writing games so I can spend more time writing. The two I’m familiar with are Thousand Year Old Vampire and A Visit to San Sibilia, but which ones have you enjoyed?

I’ve got loads I’ve picked up but haven’t had time to get to. An acquaintance of mine has that as almost his whole thing: https://www.presspot.games/

In typical fashion, immediately after asking for recommendations I found one I really like. I’ve started playing Prentice which is about you trying to escape a magical sanctuary before it collapses and involves you pulling blocks from a jenga tower. Very good so far!

Sealed library has a few. The Sealed Library and Wretched and Alone are the two bigger ones by them, their itch page also has a collection of games made by others using the Wretched and Alone system.

Jeeyon Shim also makes a lot of journaling games. I’ve only played Wait for Me and found it very touching.

Also ymmv but I personally play Ironsworn/Starforge as jorunaling games. It’s a bit crunchy and the onboarding might be more than others but once you get the system down I find it easy to play a session and and write a couple paragraphs about what happened (the materials for both versions are also free on the main website).

Here’s a few I’ve gotten into. Only played a few.

Sentinel was how I came up with the backstory for my character in Barquq’s last campaign!

I was going to bring up Iron Valley, actually, which IIRC is based on Ironsworn. It seems very cute haha

So I’ve already written over a thousand words of extremely good sad witch fiction that I’m incredibly proud of, but I am worried that if I take a break and come back tomorrow the jenga tower will fall over in the meantime lmao

Exeunt Press has a few. It’s not really my thing so I can’t really vouch for quality but he’s cool, so.

Jeeyon Shim has already been recommended but I cannot recommend “Field Guide to Memory” strongly enough (Field Guide To Memory by jeeyonshim). I played along during its live run, when the prompts were being live emailed to the participants. Extremely good and compelling and you produce a pretty neat journal as a keepsake in the playing.
