Solar Eclipse 2024

Anyone else going to see the eclipse today? I’m right on the edge of where it should be a total eclipse so I’m hoping I can share some decent pictures of it!

Decided not to travel for it, but I’ll still have ~95% coverage where I’m at. I was in Seattle for the eclipse in 2017 and it was way cooler than I expected, even without full coverage.

I only found out about it today but it’s raining heavily so I think I’m gonna miss it :(

Nearly there!

Weather here was pretty cloudy so I didn’t even bother going out. The one in October was like right over where we are and this time it isn’t.

Totality was the coolest shit I’ve ever experienced. It is absolutely wild to look up and the sun is black and glowing like that.

yea it’s no wonder this was a sign of some spiritual / mythical shit going on back in the day lol

Yeah! Especially because without glasses you can’t see it happening really, the sun just looks normal but it’s slowly getting dimmer and dimmer and animals are getting confused and then very suddenly it’s black as night and there’s THAT in the sky and then a couple minutes pass and it’s gone like nothing happened

was disappointed I couldn’t get any good pictures, but overall, it was cool as hell. We got about 95% coverage here as well.

Telescope pic! The library had an amateur astronomer club come and set up their telescopes and let people look through them. This is a photo I took of the view through the telescope at our peak, I think we got 80% coverage?

(Viridian) I saw it! …but it was overcast in this city where we had 100% totality, so I instead got to see a lightshow involving the clouds instead of the eclipse itself. It was still REALLY cool to see everything go completely dark for three minutes and the instant totality was over, everything got bright again. It was awesome.

My options were stay home and end up in a part of the country that was in the path of annularity for the eclipse back in October and thus probably not pay attention to this one, or drive through West Texas to visit friends who were renting an airbnb kind of place.

Ultimately I decided that I would not drive through west texas

I went to west Texas! It sure sucked getting to west Texas and it was half clouded out but it was still cool. Have a shitty phone picture of right when it went to totality.
