Auldnoir is a location in one of my favorite games of all time, Gravity Rush. It’s here where Kat wakes up before her adventure begins and a place that I’ve become fascinated with. I’d spend hours flying around in it, exploring every nook and cranny of its brownstone houses and furnaces and factories, along with the rest of Hekseville and the World Pillar.
It became a place I consider a digital home, and it’s the namesake for this forum for the same reason.
Auldnoir (the forum) is a place where I’d like to try and bring back that old-school forum spirit to my life again. If you know me, you’ll know I spend most of my time on Cohost, and I love it there, but it doesn’t scratch the itch that a traditional forum does. So I figured I’d take a crack at making one myself! I have an idea of what I think this place could be like, and I’ll be building the initial structure - but y’all are the ones that’ll bring it to life, so if you’re here: thank you! I hope you enjoy it.
With that said, here are the rules, some of my goals, and some things you can do to get started:
Rules and Goals
This is an inclusive, fun, and safe place to chat. With that said:
Rule 1:
Bigotry, including but not limited to discrimination or hate speech based on race, gender, sexuality, religion, disability, or any other attacks on one’s personhood, will not be tolerated.
Rule 2:
Threatening behavior or harassment of any kind will not be tolerated. Auldnoir is not to be used to launch attacks on others.
Rule 3
Be sensitive to the fact that there may be a myriad different backgrounds in Auldnoir. Read a conversation and consider whether it needs your perspective or whether you’d gain more by listening. Conversely, if you feel someone is out of their lane, please raise the issue with me via the flag function. Don’t assume everyone is like you, especially if you grew up or live in the global West, are White, Cis, Able-Bodied, Neurotypical, Financially Secure, or any combination therein. If you don’t know about a topic, research it.
Rule 4
Use content warnings, the spoiler tag, or the ‘Hide Details’ function when linking to or posting depictions of body horror, disease, death, sex and sexuality, substance abuse, or violence.
Rule 5
When posting someone else’s work (art, cosplay, and so on), please do your best to source it and provide links to the creator’s social media or portfolio. If you don’t have the source, do a reverse image search to look for it.
Rule 6
No AI shit.
These rules may have more added to them as time goes on. If you see something you don’t think should be here, flag it and I’ll find out.
