For me it’s the latter
I have two separate ones
I also have two separate lists but Nine Sols is at the top of both this year
i dont do goty stuff myself usually but my friend who streams has been talking about doing a chatting goty stream and ive found myself mostly thinking back on the very first game i played this year, touhou mystia izakaya. i didnt feel that hype over it after finishing but nearly a year later of all the games i played this year thats the one i just want to play more of. popcorn restaurant sim game for the brain.
realising from this thread that maybe I play too many new releases LMAO
Depends on the context of who’s asking tbqh. Like is it “how good was this year in games” or is it “what did YOU play”
maybe ill give tales of the abyss replay another try in 2032 when they finally release a new version of it without 10 second load times on every area or battle transition… (is mostly shocked finding out reading this article that there is still a tales of series producer)
lmfao while this is neat news more or less, it’s pretty funny that this is the only news we’ve gotten. will we ever get a new Tales? survey says…
(Arise fucking sucked and i’d love for that to not be the last one, damn)
I was thinking of Destiny myself, but I think there was a remake of that? And its certainly more easily emulatable than Abyss, which also remains unported, unlike Symphonia.
Luke fon Fabre :)
I dont often do GOTY lists or anything, but i once considered Twinkle Star Sprites(1996) my GOTY for 2020 cuz playing and being involved in the community was a great time for me that year.
Its just very hard to not support a game which has its own Shadow the Hedgehog
Yeah, Capcom is the main culprit, but i dont think anyone does more than 1 fighting game at a time anymore. Bamco sorta juggled two until Solcal fell off the face of the earth.
I hate it, it’s one of those thing that shows me that im in a different world than when i played fighting games as a child.
Companies are putting are their eggs into one basket instead of having multiple games available for multiple tastes.
Oh i forgot SNK sorta is gonna have multiple games at once. Samsho. KOF, and garou, but KOF is near end of life i think and Samsho has kinda stopped service with no idea of when a sequel will happen.
Arcsys too sorta, but a similar situation with their games too i think.
Shadow the Hedgehog fundamentally altered the brain chemistry of 11 year old me. Roxas Kingdom Hearts fundamentally altered the brain chemistry of 13 year old me. Luke fon Fabre fundamentally altered the brain chemistry of 16 year old me. the beat goes on…
A good Shadow can really elevate a game to another level, I’m personally a huge fan of Jeanne, who is totally dating Bayo, there’s only two Bayonetta games and you can’t convince me otherwise. Although I do hear Bayo 3 is at least pretty fun gameplay-wise, so I guess if I ever find it for cheap it might be worth it
This is good news. Tales of has a huge catalog that’s never been outside of Japan, so they could milk this for a while.
Yea, its been a minute, but Tales is one of their blockbuster titles and the turnaround tends to be like 3 or 4ish years between games? I think there’ll always be new tales as long as bamco is operational.
Ok but have you considered they could make the next one worse? Somehow…
I think SNK had their ups and downs but Capcom could definitely afford it. I know this is doing their work for them but they’re really missing an opportunity by not marketing Darkstalkers harder. The internet loves DS even though it’s a smaller retro game.
I hope we get another Samsho game by like, 2027. Depends how long they plan to support KOFXV and COTW. I have feelings about how Samsho 2019 successfully brought people into the series, but also made something less interesting than the past games lol
time for my favorite activity: looking at wikipedia release timelines of video game franchises and how active they are in the 00s and how they completely drop off going into the 20s
i miss my popcorn jrpgs tails, i miss them a lot
you’re so right about this actually Jeanne rules
