Just bought an OLED steam deck (like literally a minute ago) so I’m looking forward to having that for my upcoming holiday travel.
I lost an hour of my morning to this. It’s very hard, even on the lowest difficulty setting, but still fun.
Yi “I’m not out for vengeance, I just want to kill them for what they did to my people and my planet” McLastName is an amazing character, I love him so much
Yea I started 九日 too now, and Yi truly is a character of all time
game’s good y’all, as if you didn’t know lmao
Nine Sols update, 3 Sols (Warehouse): Oh, I think I should have been eating these fruits? Whoopsie.
Alright, I’ve officially started Ever17. I don’t know how I didn’t realize “Underwater theme park disaster” meant there was roughly a 100% chance of thalassophobia triggers, but VNs are just abstract enough as a medium that it should be the perfect level of triggering to work for me as horror, erring on being too abstract to rattle me out of even playing, like Soma or Subnautica do. So I think I’m in for a really good time here!
Nine Sols update, still 3 Sols: Prison
First, Jie is cool as heck. I love having a Majima or a Monsoon to contrast Yi.
Second, stealth sequences are still not great, but that was simple enough, and felt more like a puzzle (as I imagine, all good stealth sequences should)
Third:
I had a thought about this that maybe I should have shared earlier; I’m not sure if its reading too much or not knowing enough, but my impression is that Yi is not good at parrying. From an incredibly superficial knowledge of Tai Chi and deflection, you’re supposed to trip, turn or generally push and pull your opponent away, using their momentum and strength against them. Yi, however, just stands there tanking it. And it makes sense with this idea in mind, because he is inflexible, with his ideas set in stone. There’s no flowing or moving past him.
Which has been more or less confirmed by the new charged parry, which has a much more fluid stance and is clearly focused on redirecting and repurposing opponents strikes, rather than just taking them face first
Yakuza 6 is going well. I said i was gonna put it on pause while i make progress thru re:CoM, but it’s been a really good comfort game and its easier to play on my PC than fire up the ps2
Overall it’s ok, i feel the game interrupts me a little too much. Some of that is troubler, and some is unexpected side missions when im focused on something else.
But im having fun overall. Not a huge dragon engine fan, but I’ll live.
I wanna do a straw poll. Of the following games, which should i play next (assume price or discounts arent a factor)
- Yakuza 7 (im a boomer)
- Ishin
- The spy game (is this canon?)
- judgement
man Cassette Beasts was a TON of fun. if you (like me) are a late millennial Pokémon fan who feels the series peaked around gen 5, you would probably love it. just a really thoughtfully designed and consistently engaging game. the writing/plot aren’t, like, stellar, but we’re comparing it to Pokémon here so. the bar is subterranean.
also you can play in couch co-op! it breaks a lot of the puzzles wide open tbh but it’s still fun :)
WAIT I FORGOT THE MOST IMPORTANT PART. the music is consistently Excellent and all the battle themes have vocal mixes that are extremely catchy. big fan
It’s honestly so good. Having a reference to my favorite Shakespeare play was a sweet bonus
Play Beastieball if u want more :3 :3 :3 :3 :3 i loved Casette Beasts and deadass I love Beastieball even more
I love this thing. 4 inch screens are perfect for my aging eyes. I’m like 14 hours in, finally got past where I normally get stuck in FFVI so this is looking like the run gamers. talked about it in the Blogroll if you wanna see my long-term thoughts.
Beyond that:
- Think I might also finally finish FFXII
- Moar Beastieball
- Nobody Saves the World
- Finally gonna wrap up Phantasy Star IV
- Tales of Destiny DC
I’m enjoying videogames a lot lately which is nice :)
I love the vocal versions that kick in when you fuse. It rules.
Ever17 is getting more and more recognizable by the moment, I’m definitely gonna have to play Remember11 at some point. Its definitely much much closer to Zero Escape than AI, but that’s my preference anyways, and it looks like this is gonna focus a bit more on gathering meta info from multiple playthroughs to plan out a golden route (“Well, if I pay attention to Sora’s speech in the into, then Takeshi will know what the headphones are for, which might be important later. But if I go to the storage room after You and Sara try talking with Tsugumi, then the only relavent info I get is that Sara is depressed she wasn’t able to convince Tsugumi to open up, so maybe that’s one I have to ignore, whereas all the other options have a lot more going on in them…”), assuming one even exists (I know Never7 didn’t). Definitely having a blast, this might even get me to take my vita to work so I can play this on break
All of them besides Ishin are canon, IIRC Judgement is the next chronologically but AFAIK Judgement doesn’t really… add much to the world? At least not what I played, it’s more of a standalone “If you like the combat, that’s what you got now”
I know there’s people who love it but from what I’ve been playing of it it feels too much like discount Yakuza, it’s missing a lotta the flair you’d usually see with the buildups to the fights and all >.>
I’d personally recommend 7 outta them
it’s SO COOL all games should have this tbh.
when I realised Viola was THAT Viola I yelled out loud, I was actually in Twelfth Night in high school LMAO
We’ve clocked almost 50 hours in Final Fantasy VIII and we’re still on Disc 1. This is the true gaming experience.
(I finished Dragon Quest, had a good time. Feels leagues ahead of Final Fantasy in some ways.)
After several hours of troubleshooting, I managed to get a working copy of Mother 3 on the 3DS, but I had an absolutely transcendent experience in the process. One of the versions I loaded up kept sticking the mom’s dialogue in place of everyone’s dialogue, including the farm animals. I thought the game was having a real laugh when the cow called me sleepyhead. It did eventually crash after the Mole Cricket tutorial battle. An experience that is easily on par with my other favorite unintentional game experience: The Stanley Parable, except the camera spins endlessly.
