i am in oc/canon hell with the new dragon age game holy shit it’s never been this bad i don’t think. emmrich volkarin my beloved.
the game itself is cromulent Enough (combat’s fun but def dumbed down from dao/da2) (haven’t played dai) but the story/characters lack a lot of edge and a lot of heart in places where it matters; have been discussing this with a friend off the forum. there’s just like. beyond the main story, there’s no Friction, esp with your companions. nothing like anders/fenris hating each other or whatever. any issues your companions have are smoothed over like instantly or are just Implied off screen and then smoothed over. not to MENTION implications/loreshit wrt the crows and the lords of fortune being the Good Guys despite being assassins and pirates/thieves respectively. taash having a line about being upset you call them a thief is genuinely kind of funny considering the lords just. loot shit. and ngl i rolled my eyes over the repatriation line bc it reminds me of the one tumblr post that’s like ‘omg what if indiana jones but he gives back all the artifacts !’. and the crows just straight up being good guys bc the venatori/antaam are so cartoonishly evil is. Weird. instead of being like an unsteady thing where they’re the best hope but still not great it’s just oh they’re unequivocably the good guys in this scenario :)'. also the governor of treviso being nonbinary is really funny to me bc unless your rook is nb they’re probably the first nb character you meet in the game LMAO. and it’s the fucking corrupt politician.
that being SAID, if i wasn’t romancing emmrich, i’d romance taash for sure, i like them a lot.
Second form is even better, but goddamn, mommy got hands, that was the hardest fight so far by a HUGE margin. The contrast between being classic RedCandle heavily emotional horror and the 3 phases boss was amazing
Oh, abso fucking lutely, it really carried my mood after like, one hour of attempts. The previous platforming also had some misses, but that soft “na na na na” in the background also helped
Getting into collecting tcg made me give Legends Arceus another shot and I’ve found my rhythm. The need to catch stuff for progress isn’t that bad. I just need to make the effort to catch everything new I see, as I see it, then rank up. Then I can chill and only catch things I feel like catching.
I miss abilities but it’s nice being able to smack a Geodude and walk away without sturdy activating. I’m having fun teambuilding for aesthetic/head-cannon purposes instead of battle. Caught a shiny Rhydon and she’s going on the team (good nature too)! Every shiny I’ve caught naturally throughout my Pokemon history has been a yellow/gold variant: Swablu, Dustox, Larvesta, now Rhydon. The rest were trades or hatched.
Made it all the way to the hallway before the Death fight in the original Casltevania (Almost got there with the holy water and triple upgrade, but I picked up a cross in the room before because I don’t know those candle drops as well and wasn’t paying attention ) and proceeded to jump into three medusa heads in a row…
it was phenomenal imo, i mentioned it on bluesky but i wish i experienced it when i was a kid so it could be a core memory. absolutely up there with the other 16 bit juggernauts of the era.
now i’m trying to figure out what’s next. Got Tales of Destiny: DC still going on the Odin 2, but for the Anbernic I’m thinking:
sorry for being lame but ive rewatched this cutscene a dozen times since getting it ingame yesterday and it really is one of the best video game cutscenes ever maybe. the song, the acting on yunas singing, perfectly selling the tragic romance of characters that have barely been explored in the game at this point. they did an amazing job with the dubbed songs in this game and the fact that this cutscene was actually reworked and rerendered for the english version because they decided to make the final chorus a duet is crazy. in the original version lenne quickly fades back into yuna after the flashback but in the english version lenne and yuna duet through the whole final section until the last note where lenne and the hologram fades away. the english version is such an improvement and just really completes the whole cutscene. square (+enix) were on top of the world in the late 90s early 00s they had unreal amounts of power to make me go into youtube comments sections and post “this still makes me cry in 2024”
I know I’ve asked a thousand times, but what’s there name of this device? Im gonna jailbreak my 3ds, but i line there look of the analog stick on this one?
I’m feeling pretty confident about my guess for one of the big What The Fuck Is Happening questions in Ever17 (You’s father died when she was 1, and she got her job at the LeMU partly because she suspects foul play from inside the company, or that he might even still be alive. Recent discoveries, though, imply that he died before she was even born, and that her mother has been dead for over a decade as well; she’s gotten her hands on a log of the company’s internal messaging system from two employees discussing her mother’s then-recent death, and her father’s death “nineteen years ago” that seems to be dated from 2002, when the game happens in 2017. The pov character for this route has come to the conclusion that this character time traveled into the future at some point in her life, and these dates are in fact entirely accurate, and the mother she’s grown up with was secretly a foster parent. My theory is that these dates are accurate, but the characters aren’t reading them right: the logs aren’t from July 19th, 2002, they’re from July 2nd, 2019, and everyone trapped here was out cold for two years. Its certainly not perfect, but its significantly simpler than the kid’s, and answers other questions as well), but the other big one (Why is The Kid seeing Coco, the kid from the prologue who had a pet lemur and was trying to tell everyone a joke, and does this have anything to do with the handful of times that he’s seemingly predicted the immediate future, like noting that he has a bad feeling just before a brief blackout, or warning Nakkyu not to touch a door that would have burned her when he had no reason to suspect it would be so hot?) is… completely losing me. I have a vague guess (Maybe he’s a robot, with a physical body, and when he sees Coco, he’s seeing her through a second body he has that’s in the other blocked off section of the park that shares memories and experiences with the body that’s serving as the player pov?), but it relies on some pretty wild bullshit and doesn’t even cover all the mysteries at hand. I know I’ve already said it, but… damn I’m loving this game. Also got to Dracula in Castlevania! Death was handing me my ass in a bag, but it turns out he’s even more trivialized by the holy water than I thought: if he spawns into an already burning fire, you can stunlock him before he finishes descending into the arena, so he never summons his scythes to throw at you. The final level is pretty tough, but stage 16 is actually fairly simple if you just ignore the bats, and 17 is brutal… but not really all that long. So getting back, even from game start, shouldn’t be too bad
You’re good, this is the anbernic RG40XXV but imma keep it real with you the control stick is ass and I never use it, luckily it doesn’t get in the way at all in my hands and the dpad is wonderful
I’m pretty sure it’s responsible for 100% of my obsession with sandworms and 50% of my obsession with westerns (the space half. the fantasy half is Wild ARMs)
