What Are YOUR New Years Resolutions?

i’m like a week late but What Ever.

auldnoir forum peeps, what are YOUR new years resolutions? can be as vague or as indepth, one or many, as you like/are comfy with sharing!

mine are nebulous rn but go smth like this i think:

  1. play more indie games (SPECIFICALLY indie games. davg was fun but it took up the ENTIRE month of late november - late december. i want shorter games with worse graphics etc.) (i wanna play more stuff off of itch specifically)
  2. learn to drive (has been a Goal for like 2 years running now but since we’re moving in a few months, ideally not in the same neighborhood, i’ll NEED to learn to drive since i wanna stay at my jorb) (yes, i’m 31 and can’t drive. i took driver ed in high school and it was the ONLY time i’ve ever driven. a combo of an epileptic mother + severe undiagnosed/unmedicated anxiety/ocd in high school = me not even feeling comfy with the thought of driving until the last 5 years or so) (gf, whom we’re moving in with along with our roommate, has offered to teach both myself and bf, so i NEED to get my permit and take her up on that)
  3. watch more movies (i am NOT a movie person unfortunately, it’s the adhd, but i’m cobbling together a list of movies, esp from the last few years, that i RLY wanna see, starting with i saw the tv glow.) (just need to make time to watch em…)

im ngl the last 3 have been off the cuff, i want to have more but it’s like when u get asked what u want for your bday, you’ve never wanted anything ever.

anyway these r mine wats urs?

  • Listen to more music. If someone sends me some music unprompted and is like “im so into this I need to share it” im gonna start opening those links. I need to grow my taste beyond soundtracks and 1 or 2 bands.
  • Read more books. Gonna finish at least the Locked Tomb series but that’s just sorta bare minimum of my expectations for the year.
  • Write more, and don’t post it fucking anywhere. Just write and write. Just for me.
  • Synthesize cholesterol(*) of reasonable purity at home.

Angel

  • Spend more time with friends IRL. This is an easy one because I love doing it a lot.
  • Build a community that can survive whatever institutional turmoil is coming.
  • Have more sex and get really good at it.
  • Get a job.
  • Move outta my parents place.

J

  • Therapy.
  • Medication.
  • Health, diet & exercise.

  • make Witness Link chapter 2. If at all possible get around to maybe 3 too.
  • draw more, and experiment. we need to build our skills back up
  • Eat frozen meals and delivery as little as possible, start doing food prep.
  • Perform some sort of artistic shenanigans with VHS/analogue audio-video
  • pay more attention to our website

I’m finally getting my ADHD addressed this year.

First appointment is next Tuesday.

That’s it! My ONLY resolution.

last year i somewhat learned how to read again (comics and audiobooks) so this year im going to try to learn how to watch movies and tv again

also im going to do my best to try to get back into therapy and possibly back on meds if they help because it turns out the bandaid solution of “ill just focus all my energy on having a job and going to said job this is fine” is falling apart i think

Not too many, really:

  • Read 12 books. Same goal as the last two years. Only difference is that I will also endeavor to take notes while reading and to highlight more things.
  • Finish 12 games. Also the same goal as the last two years. A few notable things will be different this year:
    • I won’t be keeping up my “play a bit of a game every day” thing anymore after two years. It’s being maintained through this month while I play Boku 2, but I will intentionally break it after that.
    • I’m not tracking game time played on Backloggd anymore, just when I start/finish a game.
    • Instead, I’m going to take more notes while playing games. I’ve got a bunch of notes for Boku 2 already.
  • Try more new recipes/try to create at least one recipe template. I enjoy cooking (especially together, which is pretty much exclusively how we cook with very few exceptions) but we haven’t tried many new things lately due to time and exhaustion. I don’t really think anything will improve on the time/exhaustion front, but I’d like to at least have a bit more joy in food.

to be more social! i was severely isolated through most of 2024 and i really wanna change that this year. i just wanna see more queer people IRL and hang out with them. i hate the loneliness that 2024 brought…

I dont wanna call them resoluations, but i ahve some havits i wanna build and things i wanna do.

  • host an fgc local at my library (the one close to me, not the one i work at)
  • exercise more consistently
  • stay consistent with Japanese practice
  • be more politically active in my local community. (Like joining DSA, helping local leftists get into office, etc.)
  • also i need to go back to therapy and such. Im suffering a severe shortage of “it is what it is” rn

Not very resolutions-brained this year. I made a handful at the start of 2024 that were mostly about trying to do some things more, and while they did in fact get me to do more, I only really fulfilled one of them (my legal name change).

Still though, it’s worth trying to set intentions anyway. Better to try to be intentional in my life.

Few things and goals I wanna achieve this year

  • Getting my yellow and orange belt in tkd. I’ve mostly just been missing the attendance requirement bc work keeps sending me on boats. Hopefully after June and the monthly surveys end, my private life can settle fown
  • starting and maintaining a regular pen pal exchange with my boyfriend in Canada
  • making some new marine science mondays post and finishing uploading my backlog. There’s also a handful of other writing projects I wanna finish
  • OH. Right, around the new year I got the idea to try drawing little doodles of every therian/nonhuman person in my life. My original goal was just everyone in my polycule & my roommate, but if I feel so motivated I might be able to doodle any auldnoir folks who want one too
  • much as I hate the thought I really do need to figure out better habits and mindset for handling my job. It’s already gotten me in trouble the once and I’d like to be struggling less

There’s probably some more but this is a decent start, without time to think of something more.

ok sincere response:

  • plan a dang wedding. we think we might like to get married next spring so that gives me the whole year and then some. seems doable?
  • take my driving test and pass it. this one is non-negotiable LMAO
  • try engaging more mindfully with media. yeah this means taking notes etc. I have a bad habit of reaching the end of a game/book/whatever and thinking damn I’d like to talk about that but unfortunately I forgor absolutely every thought I had about it while playing/reading/etc. could it be that a method of retaining thoughts about something has yet been invented?! (yes)

it weirdly kind of only feels like one, because the first two are going to happen whether I want to do them or not, but they are nonetheless things I wish to do this year that I will have to put concerted effort into, so I think they belong here :)

eta: I’m gonna continue to get better at Obsidian also LMAO I feel like this is a constant process. every couple of months I hugely overhaul core parts of my vault for the better and have been doing that for almost a year now! and like it’ll never be PERFECT but I genuinely enjoy the tinkering, so

They do! Like, the TKD one is sort of integrated into my weekly routine, but it’s the highlighting that gives me the extra push to do more toward making sure it happens, especially for something that takes time. All the others are a push to get me to integrate them into my routine life

:dagger:: A few of ours in no particular order:

  1. Get good at Dreamwidth and long form blogging. In the short term, I have a thing I wanna write.
  2. Make a few more meatspace friends and connections. Online alone cannot sustain.
  3. Help our roommate get a job and on their feet. Both for selfish reasons (a third income stream would help) and because getting your first job’s a pain in the ass, and I wanna help.
  4. Get our name changed on our license, it’s stuck in documentation hell currently. Fucking Real ID.
  5. Reestablish better internal communication and support structures. They fell apart over the last year for a few reasons, and it fucking shows. Time to git gud at being plural.
  6. Gain a bit more weight and find a way to exercise that’s fun for us. It’s been going well so far, want to keep working on it.

That’s more or less it. Good luck to everyone on their own stuff, we’ll make it a good 2025 despite everything.
