X-men 97 is going to be like walking into a whole different dimension, this show slaps so hard.
Marcille is like a character from a straight fantasy setting that got accidentally teleported to this kooky one, her logic and reasoning are all extremely sound, she’s just working with the worst group to get her girlfriend back
When more characters are around to call out Laios, she feels a lot more sensible (though by that point she has also crossed some spoilery lines)
Great show that I don’t think ever got a follow up season? I like when things are just over, to be fair, so not a big complaint. Love any kind of straight up mentally ill person spiralling down. There’s a very uncomfortable plot point that stuck out to me, but overall a solid show.
Laios truly is ??? lol I personally never stopped feeling like that about him through the whole run of the manga but idk a lot of people seem to like him so ymmv?
Around 75% through the Dungeon Meshi’s manga run is when I got tested for ADHD and learned more about neurodivergency and such and Laios really clicked for me as a character once I understood more about the symptoms of autism
I was worried that the CGI of girls band cry would be the part of the show that was unsettling and uncanny, but actually it looks really good. Instead it is the degree that Nina is a Profoundly Relatable Character that I find unsettling. Girl needs a hug, probably an antipsychotic
X-men '97 hitting with the leftist infighting episode. Somewhat middling, and oddly fitting given that its literally the middle of the Tolerance is Extinction arc, but I also wonder how the finale will go.
Not that there was anything wrong with the execution, it was “just” the moving pieces from the last few episodes clashing against each other, a commendable job for a serialized cartoon, but overall it lacked the oomph from previous entries, aside from the very last bit of Wolverine getting his adamatium ripped off by Magneto, another classic comic bit.
Just got home from I Saw the TV Glow it was soooo good. I knew it was gonna be That Gay Shit but it really fired on all cylinders. Highly highly recommend.
We watched The Round Up 4 and it was awesome, and a total blast to watch with the three other groups of people who were all Korean (this series is insanely popular in its home country). It was a blast hearing Ma Dong-Seok’s punches absolutely rip through the theater. Probably the best one in the series - if not, definitely the funniest.
Also been rewatching the Planet of the Apes remake movies, and rewatched Godzilla Minus One twice in a week lol (once with my friends, and another time with my fiance!)
Saw that Blue Angels IMAX documentary. Surprisingly boring for a film about live performers who are also fighter pilots. Feels like they filmed everything a season too early, because the second half sets up the incoming squad which included the first female pilot and a new leader who’s also new to the team, which both seem like more interesting angles to explore than what they went with.
Also, they used this song for the final flight sequence and it was incredibly distracting lmao
Love Dungeon Meshi. Partner and I are caught up so we’re watching new episodes as they come out. (I have already read the manga so I’m mainly enjoying the animation/adaptation angles.) We also started Tonari no Yokai-san and it’s so delightfully bittersweet throughout, and I took Frieren for a one-episode spin and might continue on with it. Will give it a couple more episodes to really find itself.
also the One Piece catchup continues, we finally hit Imu’s reveal in the anime (currently at 887, though I spoil myself regularly on manga stuff so I wasn’t surprised so much as excited to see my partner’s thoughts/reactions) and I’m trying to mentally prepare myself for the behemoth that is Wano
almost caught up with dungeon meshi… i just watched the cockatrice episode last night
laios is definitely autistic
i wish senshi was my dad when he was like “i must feed the youngsters” it was so cute
i love Rido
marcille has definitely grown on me, especially now that she’s outed herself as hopelessly in lesbians with falin & also she’s kind of scary magic-wise
kabru seems a bit unhinged for a show where everyone’s already baseline somewhat unhinged
I watched The Phantom Menace again last night. It’s such a frantic opening 20 minutes but what really gets me is how good everything sounds. And everything HAS a noise that it makes when it does something that is simply pleasant to listen to. It’s so weird but at the same time, this watch helped me narrow in on what I find so resonant with that music. It’s a sonic delight.
I watched Girls Band Cry, or what there is of it so far. I love all of those girls. I’m glad I gave it a try despite an initial visceral reaction to the CGI.
