I’m glad you got to enjoy yourself and happy borfday!!
Started Ping Pong to see what the hype is about and now understand what the hype is about after a couple episodes.
I heard for years about how hard Ping-Pong goes, I still wasn’t ready for how hard it went
ping pong is in my top 5 anime for sure, that shit OBLITERATED me it’s so good
I’ve still gotta watch it, but have read the manga which also rules!
Watched Hundreds of Beavers which is an incredible movie that’s better the less you know about it
Wrapped up the Tomino Power Hour triple threat of Xabungle, Dunbine, and L-Gaim a couple months ago and have started on the 90s Power Hour of Outlaw Star and Escaflowne
There’s 3 episodes left of X-men '97 and I just don’t know what its going to be after. This gotta be the best this setting has ever been adapted, the freshest superhero property in ages, the most raw and still ridiculous fun animated show in a long while, but even then the whole thing with the showrunner¹ makes its future quality uncertain.
This is also the one adaptation where I didn’t mind Captain America and Thunderbolt Ross showing up as cameos. First because it was much less “look at this actor!” type of deal, and secondly because it paints a larger world; of course these types of figures would be around after a literal genocide happened.
Cyclops speaking to the president about Genosha and if “it looked more human” he wouldn’t be afraid of openly aiding the survivors and losing voters was another good moment. Honest, for a setting so corny, they’re really getting a lot of mileage of saying the quiet part out loud every episode.
I binged Deadloch the other day.
It’s really funny, and also a good murder mystery.
Watching Train to the End of the World. I think a lot of my enjoyment is coming from wanting to run a trpg with this hook but it does have moments of good comedy and horror.
Started X-Men 97 and I’m really hype to continue. As lifelong x-men fan its been fun. I chortled at the goldball reference. When they were attacked in the Blackbird I thought to myself “Well, Scott should be used to falling from planes” and then we see him not worried at all and concussive blast to break his fall and I fully marked out. That and the Storm scene were
Also watched the Fallout show. I honestly don’t have any strong opinions on it. I was expecting terrible and relative to those expectations it was good. It’s watchable. It’s like when I was in secondary school and they would give out free boxed meals for breakfast and lunch. It was edible, sometimes good even, but usually fairly bland.
Challengers is fucking incredible, holy shit.
said it before, but uhhh, y’all see this Mob Psycho 100? Shit’s wild good
I’ve been watching Jarvis Johnson’s Dhar Mann bingo playlist as background noise for some Runescape grinding lmao
I’ve been peripherally aware of Dhar Mann, but I feel like this is the best way of experiencing that corner of youtube
Watched it today, and generally agree with this. Solid movie, solid action, this man gets beat up so much I was wondering how the hell the fight was going to turn his way eventually.
Also feel a bit on the dragging middle, but this also feels very much like a “traditional” action movie rather than a The Raid or John Wick romp which start going and never stop going.
Definitely want to get a little more context later too, because I’m on the same side of getting the broad strokes but not the specific ones.
Also bless that one Person of Interests because dang, this man looks grimy for 90% of this movie
I was going to write some about X-men 97 entering its final arc with the Tolerance is Extinction three-part finale, being far more action packed and turning more tides than all previous episodes (perhaps not as much as 5) but the little moment at the end gotta be the most fanservice this series can deliver, and it delivers a lot of fanservice, so why even bother.
Shit is just going to rip for two weeks
I can’t believe it took until I watched Woolie reacting to learn about Return to Krokodile Island, this is fire, simply absurd. Like he was talking about, there’s fan projects that are great but you still look at it and go “Wow, if this was a big studio, they could’ve [done different]”, not this. This is just theater quality right out of the bat.
Also sympathizing with him because yea, Be Prepared is a fucking dope villain song.
Saw The Fall Guy and man, I’m just really fucking sick of David Leitch. I was rooting for him to break out after Atomic Blonde, but then he just stuck in the Deadpool mode and it’s gotten really tiresome. Hobbes & Shaw is one of the worst movies I’ve ever seen, then Bullet Train was just obnoxious and racist. And then this movie comes out, and it’s so fucking self-fellating about stunt work and how it’s not fair stunt performers don’t get any credit, and meanwhile he’s shoving his own production company logo in your face during the climax and starts the movie with clips of Atomic Blonde while Ryan Gosling monologues about stunts and it’s like… if you care this strongly about it, get your actor buddies to push for stunts to get more recognition! Don’t make a movie where the lead character talks about how unfair it is that stunts don’t have a category at the Oscars, call up the Academy and get them to make it a category! Because with this, it doesn’t feel like Leitch doesn’t want the Oscars to add a stunt category, it feels like he wants to win an Oscar for stunts.
my bf is recovering so we’ve been watching a lot:
-
dungeon meshi: i love food !! cool show. love the little guys. laios kinda ???. feels like marcille is being written a bit like “women are so annoying amirite? ugh women.”
-
sabrina the teenage witch: bad but you dont have to pay attention
-
over the garden wall: spooky! weird? heartfelt and creative. really interested to see where it’s going.
-
x-men the animated series: bad! it’s an action figure ad for kids! but it’s also x-men so it kinda has queer vibes. it’s really interesting that it doesn’t start with some kind of origin story for the group as a whole. it just kind of exists and you’re thrown in the middle of Ongoing Events and Magneto (my bf says he looks like man ray from spongebob) is launching nukes by ep. 3. im gonna watch it all so i can watch xmen 97 lol
-
undone: it’s fleabag but what if she was from san antonio and also what if it was made by richard linklater (rotoscoped)? good so far! love watching bitchy, depressed women try to pull everyone down with them.
an understandable feeling when she’s the only major female character for a bit. as the cast expands and the dynamics settle she stops being just “the complainer”
